From being on top of the world - and the form team in the Championship - as recently as Tuesday night, the last few days have been a blur as the club was placed into administration by its foreign owners.

And the team now faces a renewed fight to hold on to their Championship status, staring down the barrel of a 12-point deduction.

Jackson - a lifelong fan of the club who has watched on with horror as things have unfolded - has broken his silence to speak to the fans.

"The events of the last week for our football club have been shocking and heartbreaking," he tweeted.

"It has been the worst week in the club’s history. I am devastated that we could not prevent it from happening.

"This football club is so important to our town.

"For those of us who have seen us rise from non-league to the Premier League, it is a huge part of our lives and it brings our community together.

"We must ensure it survives. Thank you to Lisa Nandy and Andy Burnham for their support.

"Finally, thank you to everyone that has been in touch with the club offering support and assistance, especially the Official Supporters Club who have set up the crowdfunding appeal, and to everyone that has donated.

"The amount raised is overwhelming. #UpTheTics"
