WIGAN Athletic boss Gary Caldwell has confirmed Sanmi Odelusi's season is over after the forward underwent further surgery on a foot ligament injury.

The 22-year-old has been restricted to just five appearances since joining from Bolton last summer.

And he is already setting his sights on next term after a freak training ground incident KO’d him.

“Sanmi has had a really wretched time this season in terms of injuries,” Caldwell told the Evening Post.

“He’s done the ligaments in his foot, his toe, again.

“He looked fantastic back in training, but then seven or eight days into full training he went into a block tackle and the ligament in his foot, his toe, went again.

“He had to have it re-attached with surgery, and will be out of action until the summer.

“But I spoke to him yesterday and he’s very positive and wants to work hard and come back stronger next season.”

Caldwell also revealed winger Michael Jacobs remains ‘a long way off’ a first-team return from a calf problem he sustained at Crewe last month.
