Administrator Gerald Krasner had been unaware of the video - filmed by season-ticket holder David Curtis - circulating of EFL chief Rick Parry discussing the crisis facing the club being linked to ‘a bet in the Philippines on them being relegated’, before being passed the footage by us on Friday morning.

And he's immediately got his legal team involved to get the bottom of exactly how Latics went from being the Championship's form club to rock-bottom of the table - via a 12-point deduction - in a matter of hours.

“As a result of information I have received today, I have instructed lawyers to open an investigation file, to look at certain matters that have been brought to my attention,” Krasner said.

The EFL on Thursday night confirmed a clip of Parry - apparently discussing the jaw-dropping claims about the club's former owner - WAS genuine.

Parry was secretly recorded during a chat with a Latics fan, who happens to live in the same street in Cheshire.

“There’s rumours that there’s a bet on them in the Philippines on them being relegated," Parry is heard saying. "The previous owner has got gambling interests in the Philippines.”

The sale of the club, however, will continue as planned.

"It will not stop me selling the club in the meantime," added Krasner.

"The thing is, football is incredible.

"When I bought Leeds United, which is 15/16 years ago, I said to someone that if we made a film of what was going on, we could pay all the debts.

"And the same is true at Wigan Athletic."
