Massey hails return of Wigan Athletic partner

Byrne hasn’t kicked a competitive ball for Latics since the victory at Doncaster that secured the Legaue One title back on May 5, having picked up a groin problem over the summer.
Massey, meanwhile, has missed the last two games after tweaking a hamstring, but has been passed fit – along with Byrne – to face Nottingham Forest this weekend.

“We know what each other’s about, and we compliment each other perfectly on the field,” Massey told the Wigan Post.
“He was absolutely different class down the right side, playing as an extra winger for most of last year.
“He was our player of the season and he deserves everything he gets, it’s a pleasure to play with him.”

And the 25-year-old is still pinching himself at how things have turned out since his arrival from Leyton Orient last summer.
“I’m so appreciative of the gaffer bringing me in, and allowing me to work with so many quality players,” Massey added.
“I feel I’ve improved so much as a player - playing with quality players on a daily basis can only make you better.
“The combination with Nathan down the right has been brilliant, and it’s something we’re hoping to continue.”
