Wigan Athletic could not break their away hoodoo as they slumped to an fifth-straight loss on the road.

Latics took the lead against the run of play seconds before the interval thanks to Jed Wallace’s unfortunate own goal, but the Lions clawed back through Shaun Williams’ spot-kick and Sean Morison to record their third league victory of the term.

The match completely turned on its head when Josh Windass- scorer of the match-winner on Saturday- skied Latics’ opportunity to double their lead from the spot on the hour mark.

Just one minute later, the hosts got back onto level terms with a penalty of their own with Williams emphatically tucking his effort into the top-left corner.

Following Wigan's defeat in the capital, Paul Cook's troops slipped back down into 10th place, while Millwall climbed out of the relegation zone to 19th with their second consecutive home victory.

Latics will be immediately granted with another opportunity to end their poor away form when they travel to Sheffield United on Saturday.

Wigan fans criticised Cook's away tactical approach on social media as Latics went on to lose the Championship encounter by two goals to one at the Den despite taking an 45th minute lead.

@No1fan_: "These away performances under Cook are nothing short of shambolic. Negative team selections, negative tactics. Every bit as bad as Preston performance. To lose against QPR, Preston and Millwall is dreadful.#wafc"

@HarrisonTither: "Been poor tonight...shiuld have won it with that pen... but Millwall the better team #wafc"

@oliver_wafc_fan: "Don't get why we don't play the same style of football away from home like we do at home, no wonder our away form is terrible."

@robashcroft1: "Just frustating to watch #wafc. Had the chances to take game away from them. The front 3 selected is baffling. And Burn seems to have unsettled team to me."

@beckkhewitt: "With the games coming up I thought we would have gone for it tonight, very poor! Should have kept the same team as Saturday #wafc."

@PeteMillward79: "I'd rather see us lose our away matches trying to attack rather than see us lose our away matches not attacking. I appreciate 3 games in a week us tough on our squad #wafc."

@SamWhyte_: "Abysmal that. Away form becoming a massive worry. #wafc"

Mark Wilson: "So disappointing. Sloppy play and negative tactics done us again. #wafc."

@Elliotr98: "So negative away from home, was obvious their winner was coming but Cook seems to be happy to leave it as it is, attacking threat should've been on before their second to put them on the back foot #wafc"

@Jorc94: "Geniunely baffled as to how different we can be at home compared to playing away. 5-2 at home, 1-0-6 away. Not expecting us to win every away game but bloody hell, lads #wafc"

@LiamMcDermott4: "Need to sort our away form out ASAP!! Don't look the same team on the road. Go again Saturday #wafc."

@mossylatic: "Don't understand the lack of willing to attack teams away from home- when inevitably, sitting in results in chasing the game anyway. There's a distinctive pattern to away games atm. #wafc"

@wiganerlyon: "How can we play like that after such a good performance on Saturday? Like watching a different team. Fuming. #wafc."

@GregFarrimond: "That set up was atrocious. Millwall were the worst team I've seen this season, gifted us a 2-0 win from nothing and we still lost 2-1. Looked happy with a draw from the first minute. Poor mentality for me."

@AlexSarwar20: "Cook will get the blame for that and I agree the style of play is woeful away. But ultimately him and all of us have been let down by Vaughan and Windass."

@JackRowley7: "Vaughan scores his chance and Windass scores the pen it's game set and match to us. Mistakes cost you at this level more often than not. But on the up side, I'm sure we'll bounce back, we always do! #upthetics #wafc."
