Morgan has been out of action since the last international break in September with a hamstring problem, but after returning to full training will take his place in Gary Caldwell’s squad to face Burton.

And Caldwell’s injury problems, which have seen a busy treatment room in recent weeks, look set to be easing elsewhere, with a host of stars nearing fitness.

“Overall, coming out of the break, I think we are stronger than at the start of it and we’re eager and looking forward to these games,” said the manager.

“Craig Morgan has returned to full training with the players.

“I felt players that have been in and out of training with the group have kicked on and look much better than they were two weeks ago.

“Andy Kellett is close to returning, Donervon (Daniels) and Reece (James) have been on the Alter G (anti-gravity treadmill) and are close to getting back on the grass.

“It’s been a good two weeks where we’ve made a lot of progress.”

Kellett is nearing fitness following a nasty knee ligament injury, which carried an initial prognosis of
close to a season on the sidelines.

Reece Burke (hernia) returned from West Ham to resume his loan spell with Latics on Monday, but he remains a doubt.

But Caldwell is positive in the run up to a busy period in the calendar, and will welcome the novelty of a selection headache.

“It gives me great options,” he said.

“The team has been too easy to pick this season, I’ve not had many big decisions to make and the more I have to make the better it is because the quality we’ve got throughout the squad, the team
will be better because of that.”

Latics can close the gap on Burton in the Championship table to one point with a win this afternoon, and could make a similar dent in the table with success during next Tuesday’s trip to Leeds United.
