Morgan: Vegas will benefit us

Captain Craig Morgan insists a weekend in Las Vegas will prove to be '˜important for the group' of Wigan Athletic players.

The Latics squad jetted out to ‘Sin City’ at the end of last week, a reward from chairman David Sharpe for winning the League One title.

They’ve been keeping fans back home updated on their progress - including several players being pictured with Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho over the weekend - as well as enjoying the local customs, delights and beverages.

While it’s obviously an exercise in letting hair down after an arduous campaign, Morgan believes the benefits of the trip may also be shown further down the line.

“At the start of the year, we went over to La Manga and that was the best thing we could have done,” he told the Evening Post.

“It brought the group that bit closer together, then we went to Scotland for a small tour and it brought us closer still.

“People outside the group might not always see it, but little things like this are important for the group.”

And he says the players are far too professional to be doing anything that could hamper their ability to hit the ground running when pre-season training commences at the end of next month.

“We’ll be having a quiet time in Vegas,” he smiled. “But we’ve all got our programmes, so after we’ve enjoyed ourselves we’ll settle down and work hard again.

“It’s the way football is now - it’s so fast and so quick, you need to look after yourself.

“The boys are switched on, they’re not stupid.”
