Seven matches stand between Latics and an immediate return to the Championship - starting on Saturday at Shrewsbury.

Monday’s 1-0 win over Rochdale - which extended their unbeaten run to 18 matches - showed Latics are capable of digging in and grinding out results when not at their best.

And Morsy says the players are prepared to stand up to be counted as the winning line gets ever closer.

“There’s a real grit and determination about the players,” he said.

“We all want to do well, and there’s obviously a huge prize on offer at the end of the season.

“That’s keeping us going, and keeping us motivated.

“This is a club that wants to get back to the top, and any player with ambition would want to join a club like this.

“There’s pictures up all over the place of the Premier League years, and that has to be the target.”

The 24-year-old - a January arrival from Chesterfield - also says the squad is fighting fit and not feeling fatigued after the gruelling Easter period.

“I think the lads are actually keeping pretty fresh to be honest,” he added.

“Obviously it’s been a demanding long weekend, but a lot of it is psychological.

“When you’re aiming to get better, on a daily basis, you’ll be okay.”

Burton and Walsall also face massive matches this weekend, against Bury and Sheffield United respectively.

Not that Morsy will be losing too much sleep worrying about the various permutations.

“I don’t concern myself with results elsewhere,” he revealed.

“I just concentrate on my work, our work.

“Everything else is irrelevant, we just keep going.”
