Morsy up for the fight

The 24-year-old was one of seven new arrivals at the DW Stadium during the transfer window.

And the ex-Chesterfield skipper made his debut off the bench in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Port Vale.

Having twice been on the receiving end against Latics this term, Morsy is living proof of the old maxim: ‘If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em’.

And he’s still shaking his head in disbelief at the way Latics came back from 2-0 with 11 minutes to go to record a famous 3-2 victory back in September.

“That first game was obviously incredible, when Wigan came from two goals down to win the game,” he told the Evening Post.

“You could see then what a great team spirit they had here.

“You can see that with the amount of times they’ve come back from behind to get back into games.

“That doesn’t happen magically, by accident.

“They’re all fighting for each other and it’s a really ambitious squad here.”

Wigan’s recent win over the Spireites in the corresponding fixture – Morsy’s penultimate appearance in Chesterfield colours – was rather more straight-forward.

Latics were three goals up by the halfway mark thanks to superb goals from Max Power, Reece James and Michael Jacobs.

And the Egypt-qualified midfielder was equally impressed by the manner of the win.

“I thought they were fantastic that day,” he added.

“The system they played was perfect for a passing team – and it suits my style down to the ground.

“One of the things I was looking at when I was looking at a new club was the style of play.

“And this was one of the main attractions of coming to Wigan.”
