The Paris-born defender came through the ranks to Leicester before moving to Motherwell last summer, where he played 49 times in all competitions.

And with club captain Dan Burn out injured, the 21-year-old looks set to make his debut this weekend against Sheffield Wednesday.

“This is a proud moment for me and my family and I can’t wait to get started,” said the Ivorian.

“I am ready, and I can’t wait to make my debut in the Championship, which is a big thing for me.

“I have been waiting for this to happen for a long time and now I have the opportunity.

“I have played in two cup finals, matches against Celtic and Rangers, so I have experience of the big games and enjoy the big games.”

Latics boss Paul Cook added: “Cedric is a strong, powerful and athletic defender, who we have been monitoring some time.

“He is at a great age to develop his game after a really good season with Motherwell and I am looking forward to working with him.”
