Mourinho names strong United squad

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder is Jose Mourinho’s most recent summer signing, costing a cool £26million from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.

Mkhitaryan was the Players’ Player of the Year in the Bundesliga last term, and also led the league in assists with 15.

And he looks poised to make his first apperarance in a United shirt on Saturday when the Reds arrive in Wigan take on Gary Caldwell’s Latics (1.30pm kick-off).

Also in the United squad is England defender Luke Shaw, who missed the European Championships with the badly-broken leg he sustained at the start of last term.

Shaw is joined in the defensive ranks by ex-Latics star Antonio Valencia, as well as Holland international Daley Blind and England squad man Phil Jones.

The United midfield is even more big-hitting, including World Cup winner Juan Mata, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young and Warrington’s Jesse Lingard, who scored the winning goal in last season’s FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

And among the strikers are Memphis Depay, James Wilson and Will Keane, who spent a short time on loan with Latics during the 2013/14 season.

The United squad will be missing their Euro 2016 contingent - Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford, Chris Smalling (all England), Anthony Martial and Morgan Schneiderlin (both France), David de Gea (Spain), Marouane Fellaini (Belgium), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Matteo Darmian (Italy), Paddy McNair (Northern Ireland) and new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden) - who have been given extended time off this summer.

Meanwhile, Mourinho has had to cancel his plans to take part in a star-studded charity game in Turkey this weekend to take his place in the technical area at the DW.

The Portuguese had been confirmed to coach one of the sides in a one-off match organised by African football legend Samuel Eto’o, with whom Mourinho won the Champions League at Inter Milan.

Despite that game kicking-off at 8pm – 6pm UK time – Mourinho has reportedly had to abandon his plans to both, and concentrate on his big afternoon in Wigan.
