The words of Max Power, who provided one of THE images of a quite incredible campaign for Wigan Athletic during the celebrations that followed Will Grigg’s title-winning goal in front of the away end.

“It was an amazing experience,” Power told the Wigan Post.

“I know some people have a beef about fans running on the pitch and scenes like that.

“But it’s just pure emotion, it’s an emotional game were in.

“You’ve got over 4,000 Wigan fans - I’m sure a few will have been on the drink all day - and it happens!

“But I thought they were all very well-behaved, and there was no harm done.

“You’re on the verge of winning the league, then Griggy scores a goal...and for that 30 seconds you get grown men doing things they wouldn’t ever dream of doing!

“But that’s football, it’s what the game is all about.”

Few players have a better connection with the fans than Power, who admits he fulfilled a lifelong dream at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“If I wasn’t a football player I would be a football supporter - I am a football supporter,” he acknowledged.

“I had a little prod at it to see whether it was hot or not, whether it was a flare or a smoke cannister.

“I’ve always wanted to hold one of these at a game.

“There’s a saying: ‘No pyro, no party’...so I thought: ‘Why not?’

“For those 30 seconds, it just becomes a blur, you’re just fuelled on pure emotion.

“And it’s a great feeling to get the job done - in front of all those brilliant Wigan fans.”
