Dale spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Latics, before joining Plymouth Argyle for the whole of last term.

"Owen is an exciting signing," said Northampton manager Chris Hogg. "After starting out at Crewe, and he has been a higher level player throughout his career in both League One and the Championship.

"Owen has shown a commitment to come and play for us, he is an exciting wide player who is very direct and who will bring quality from wide areas.

"I think he is someone the supporters will enjoy watching. He has excelled at the level above, spending last season at Plymouth.

"And we have had some really positive conversations, and what came through was that he was really keen to come here.

"We have done really well to sign Owen, he is an excellent addition for the club and we are very excited that Owen is joining us."

With one door opening, another one closed with Dale replacing Jacobs in the Northampton squad.

Jacobs, 34, had an option for an extra 12 months at Sixfields, but the club opted not to take it up.

And he recently joined non-league Harborough Town, making his debut in their victory win over Morecambe.

“The club has been great to let me come down, train and be part of the group," said Jacobs. “So, to get it done and be part of such a great occasion for the club is massive.

“I’ve had such a good career going here, there and everywhere. Playing for Northampton and being a part of the club again last year was great.

“For me, I’ve heard so much about Harborough and everyone spoke so highly of it. It’s now the time in my career I can concentrate and try and help other people out.”

Jacobs spent five successful seasons with Latics, helping them to League One titles under both Gary Caldwell and Paul Cook.
