Powell back for Wigan Athletic title bid

Wigan Athletic will be boosted by the return of star man Nick Powell for this weekend's final home game of the League One campaign against Wimbledon.

The former Manchester United man has missed the last three matches with a thigh problem that caused his half-time substitution in the previous two outings.

But after a period of rest and recuperation, Powell is back to hopefully inspire Latics to secure the League One title with a game to spare.

“Nick Powell’s available, he’s back fit, which is a big boost for us,” enthused Latics boss Paul Cook.

“Everyone knows how important he is for us, and that brings a little bit different dimension to our team.”

Latics head into the last two matches with a one-lead over already-promoted Blackburn – with the added benefit of a vastly-superior goal difference.

A Latics win against the Dons would secure the title if Blackburn fail to win at play-off chasing Charlton.

Cook has reported no other fresh injuries.
