Premier League offer rejected by Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic are determined to hang on to teenage sensation Sean McGurk - at least until the end of the season - after repelling interest from a Premier League club.

The 17-year-old has been in outstanding form for the Under-18s side this term, and may even be fast-tracked into the first-team set-up after the squad lists are confirmed for the second half of the campaign - when he wouldn't 'count' for quota purposes.

Premier League new-boys Leeds are believed to be the club in question, having initially tried for him last summer.

However, they failed to take him to Elland Road along with fellow Academy starlet Joe Gelhardt, who made the move for £1million.

And despite McGurk being out of contract this summer, Latics are hopeful a successful resolution to the takeover - and avoiding relegation to League Two - might persuade him to stay.
