Pressure...what pressure? - Wigan Athletic boss

Paul Cook reckons Wigan Athletic have a massive advantage over their rivals in the relegation run-in - having been battle-hardened after playing with the threat of the drop all season.

Latics remain in the bottom three with 12 games to go, despite Saturday's 1-0 victory over Millwall.

But they are now just two points adrift of fourth-bottom Huddersfield, with as many as 10 teams - including Wednesday's opponents Reading - still not safe.

And Cook says a few sides who have been dragged into the mix in the last few weeks might be in for a rude awakening when the pressure cranks up.

"You just keep going, towards that points tally that will keep you in this league," he said.

"Barnsley are on a great run at the minute, a couple of other teams around us also won.

"But we've been in this pressure situation for a long time now, we're used to it.

"The reality is, we're not really under any pressure.

"It's quite a normal working week for us to be in this situation - what will be will be."

Latics dug deep to see off play-off chasing Millwall thanks to a 57th-minute own goal from Shaun Hutchinson.

And after several late kicks to the gut this season, resulting in far too many dropped points, Cook hailed the character and commitment of his players.

He added: "I've said many times, can these players give me any more? I don't think they can.

"If that means sometimes things go against you, that's life, that's football.

"As a manager, the only disappointment is when you look around your dressing room and you think there is more in people.

"I don't ever have that feeling with this bunch of lads.

"I'm so proud of my dressing room, the lads give me everything they've got.

"And with a little bit of luck along the way, we can stay in this league."
