Latics’ current away form continued to plague Paul Cook’s side after they fell to their fourth consecutive league defeat on the road at Deepdale.

Tom Barkhuizen, Callum Robinson(2) and Paul Gallagher were all on target for the hosts in their convincing win over the Latics and helped lift Preston North End from the bottom of the Championship table.

Backed by over 4,000 fans who made the short-trip to Deepdale, it was an all-round disappointing day.

Latics fans didn’t hold back from venting their frustrations on social media following the defeat at Deepdale.

@Greggoo17: “Need get back to being realistic about this league. We will not and never where getting top 6 stay up should be our aim nothing more nothing less.”

@_yon_mon: “Reece James. Only hand I’d shake after that today. Rest let us all down. Simple as that.”

@mattlatics: “Would have taken 10th place at this stage of season, but the players have massively let the fans down today. Think there are a few players who need dropping unfortunately.”

@DannyyTweets: “If you'd have offered me top half at this stage of the season back in August I'd have snapped your hand off, but that performance today was embarrassing! Lads let there away form get into there heads from minute one, never looked like winning that today #wafc.”

@stuartalker: “Gutless, heartless, weak, spineless performance. How is that even possible in a derby game? Pathetic. #wafc”

@decmeehan: “Want to forget about that performance, the less said the better #wafc.”

@liampressy: “Can’t believe what I saw today. Never seen us play as poorly under Cook. No effort, that was the most surprising thing.”

@WigginMon: “Worst performance under paul cook so far, absolutely terrible today but.... we’re only a point outside a playoff spot, would we have took that at this stage at the start of this season? Course we would! #wafc Paul cooks blue an white army!!”

@andrew_bristow: “You just don’t get beat 4-0 at your closet rivals. You don’t. Simple. The very least you run your blood to water & don’t get thrashed. Players should be ashamed. #wafc”

@SammySalt57: “We got thrashed. No complaints and here is the but… we looked beaten as soon as the first goal went in. Flat performance from the team and fans delated. Sigh #upthetics #wafc We go again..”

@GarethHilton4: “@LaticsOfficial Well boys, after today’s performance. I think some of you, need to have a look at yourselves in the mirror.”

@AS_caspey: “Well. That was awful. Not a red card. They did the exact same tackles in the same position n got just booked. But didn't deserve anything. Gutless. Spineless. Heartless #wafc.”

@alexwhalley89: “I love #WAFC and everything about the club but today was embarrassing. No fight, no passion, nothing. We've got battered by an average team, no threat going forward, 3rd or 4th consecutive away game without a goal. Not good enough. 4,000 away fans full of enthusiasm and passion.”

@AidanCampbell_: “I hope the players and management feel as embarrassed and hurt as the fans do. Turned out in numbers for local derby and got shown up.”

@marcosmand76: “I don’t mind getting beat to a better side if you give it everything. Poor all over the pitch today. No heart or desire. I hope they are all embarrassed about today. Don’t think they will play that bad again. Home win against WBA and all will be forgiven.”
