Goals from Kieffer Moore and Jamal Lowe midway through either half, and a stoppage-time third from Michael Jacobs, gave Wigan Athletic a thumping 3-0 victory at Reading.

Paul Cook's men were great value for their win at the Madejski Stadium, which keeps up their wonderful recent run which has them second in the Championship form table.

Moore's opener was similar if not even better to his recent backflick at Cardiff, off Nathan Byrne's brilliant right-wing cross.

Lowe doubled the advantage with a super volley from 18 yards at the three-quarter mark.

And substitute Jacobs added the icing to the cake with number three in the ninth added minute, racing clean through before lobbing beautifully over the Reading goalkeeper.

The reason for all that stoppage-time was a very worrying injury to Chey Dunkley, shortly after coming off the bench, with all thoughts and prayers with the big man as he made his way straight off to hospital on a stretcher.

It was a disappointing end to an otherwise successful night in Berkshire, which sees Latics move level with fourth-bottom Middlesbrough, who stay out of the drop zone only on goal difference.

Latics took the game to Reading straight from the off, with Moore attempting to latch on to a long ball forward.

As Reading goalkeeper Rafael Cabral raced off his line and clawed the ball away, he came out of his area, with Moore adamant the contact had been outside.

The referee, however, thought otherwise, and Reading almost took advantage of the break at the other end.

This time it was Wigan goalkeeper David Marshall with his heart in his mouth, as he failed to take hold of a routine cross from the right.

Thankfully for Marshall, Cedric Kipre was on hand to help the ball away.

And the visitors gradually took a firm control of the game.

A low strike from Joe Williams was touched round the post by Cabral, with the resulting short corner finding Lowe.

However, the forward's shot was always wide of the mark.

But Latics were playing with a confidence and belief that belied their precarious league position, and they took the lead midway through the first half.

Byrne provided a great cross from the right flank, and Moore produced a wonderful back flick that gave Cabral no chance.

Kipre then headed over a Sam Morsy cross, with Reading happy to get to the interval without further damage.

Brilliant skills from Lowe shortly after the restart saw him get past two defenders and to the byline, and his cross was only cut out by desperate defending.

Lowe sent in another cross from the right that was well cut out, before the former Portsmouth man made it third time lucky midway through the second half.

A Williams' free-kick found its way to Lowe, who lashed the ball home from the edge of the box for his third goal of the campaign.

Only a brilliant save from Cabral then denied Williams, before Reading tested Marshall for the first time through Oviemuno Ejaria.

Lee Evans and Jacobs took over from Gary Roberts and Gavin Massey, and Evans in particular was quickly into the centre of things.

The Wales international sent in a free-kick that was well saved by Cabral, before trying his luck with an audacious attempt from far out with the goalkeeper did superbly well to divert.

Kipre sent a free header at Cabral, before Reading rallied in the last 10 minutes.

Marshall somehow pulled off a triple save to deny Charlie Adam and then Sam Baldock twice, with Baldock also seeing a stoppage-time header repelled by the Scotland No.1.

There followed a lengthy delay while Dunkley received treatment for a leg injury.

But there was still time for Latics to claim a third goal, with Jacobs racing clear before clipping the ball over the advancing Cabral.
