A fantastic hat-trick from Kyle Joseph followed by a dramatic late header from Will Keane saw Wigan Athletic end a horrific year on a massive high in a seven-goal thriller at Burton.

Three times Latics trailed at the Pirelli Stadium to League One's bottom club.

But three times Scotland Under-19 striker raised them off the canvas to register his first treble in senior football.

And former Manchester United junior Keane headed home Chris Merrie's cross with six minutes to go to complete a famous win.

Latics move up a place to 22nd - in the relegation zone only on goal difference - ahead of Saturday's trip to 23rd-placed Swindon.

John-Joe O'Toole gave the Brewers the perfect start with a free header on 13 minutes, before Joseph bundled home Darnell Johnson's flick within six minutes.

John Brayford restored the Burton advantage at the far post on 25 minutes, only for Joseph to level with a brilliant finish after a clever turn.

Burton must have thought they'd won it when Kane Hemmings put them in front for a third time on 72 minutes, only for Joseph to respond barely 60 seconds later with a brilliant flick.

And strike partner Keane was on hand with six minutes to go to put Latics ahead for the first time - which proved crucial.
