Latics enjoyed the better of the encounter, but couldn't quite force home the winner that would have lifted them above the dreaded 'dotted line' in the table with nine matches remaining.

In a game desperately short on goalmouth action, most of the Latics chances fell to the unlikely figure of midfielder Funso Ojo.

But twice the on-loan Aberdeen midfielder headed weakly at Tomas Holy, before firing the best opportunity of the three wide of the far post.

Callum Lang looked as though he might have won it in the final quarter but, after weaving into the box, he was denied by the 6'9 frame of Holy.

Ipswich threatened for perhaps the only time with 10 minutes to go, when Andre Dozzell nipped in and stabbed goalwards, only for Jamie Jones to divert the ball away.
