There was little in the game for 40 minutes, with Latics arguably having the best chance when Kyle Joseph headed over from Tom Pearce's delivery.

But two goals in the space of two minutes before the interval, from Marvin Ekpiteta and Jerry Yates, gave the Seasiders the advantage they never looked like relinquishing.

After Joseph fired wide at the beginning of the second period, Matty Virtue made it 3-0 to Blackpool on 53 minutes after a good move.

Credit Wigan for keeping going, but Will Keane was inches away from getting a touch to Pearce's inviting free-kick.

And Callum Lang was unlucky to see a 40-yard mazy run being foiled by an excellent save by Chris Maxwell at the expense of a corner.

But Blackpool finished strongly and, after Jamie Jones had denied Ellis Simms with a brilliant parry, the on-loan Everton netted a brace inside the last three minutes, from a combined distance of four yards.
