A very ordinary first half sprung into life in the last five minutes, when Tom Pearce was twice denied a penalty after going to ground in the box, before Jamie Jones did well to keep out Shaun Whalley at the other end.

Pearce and Latics made it third time lucky in the opening minute of the second period when he was tripped by Ro-Shaun Williams, and Will Keanne smashed the resulting penalty past Matija Sarkic.

But the visitors responded well and levelled at the three-quarter mark, when Whalley cut inside Darnell Johnson before firing past Jones from 12 yards.

Latics almost won it in the last of the four added minutes, with Johnson's clever run and cross from the right finding substitute Thelo Aasgaard.

But the Norway junior international's goalbound shot struck Aaron Pierre - rather than the other way round - and honours ended even.
