Simon Grayson could become Wigan Athletic manager
He was due to speak to administrators today about joining the set-up ahead of the start of their League One campaign on Sunday.
His possible arrival would allow caretaker Leam Richardson - who has seen many of his colleagues from the backroom staff depart - focus on coaching the side.
The 50-year-old, who did not reply to a request for comment, has been out of football since being sacked by Blackpool in February.
It remains to be seen whether he will take the chance to take the Latics role, even on a short-term basis.
