Before the game at the Keepmoat Latics knew that just one point would seal the League One title, due to their far superior goal difference to rivals Blackburn Rovers.

But Paul Cook’s side weren’t content of just securing what was needed and managed to take all three points back to Wigan on a fantastic afternoon for the Latics.

Will Grigg’s 26th goal of the season proved to be the title clincher, sparking wild celebrations amongst the 4,103 travelling fans.

Grigg kept his cool to slot the ball past Marko Marosi in the 75th minute after racing onto Nick Powell’s well-timed through ball, with his goal confirming that Wigan will be going up to the Championship as the league winners.

Latics held onto their lead and sensational scenes after the final whistle followed.

Plenty of fun followed, including fan-favourite Max Power orchestrating the celebrations through the tannoy, singing a rather-fitting rendition of ‘Will Grigg’s on Fire’ for the Latics faithful.
