Wabara: We have everything in place

REECE Wabara thinks Latics will '˜be doing a disservice' to themselves if they fail to gain promotion to the Championship at the first time of asking.

The 24-year-old came back into the side for last week’s 0-0 draw with Oldham, but admits the result was a source of frustration for the side.

“We’ve probably had a few too many draws lately,” he told The Evening Post.

“Saturday was one of those and those are chances we need to take really.

“The manager reiterated those are games we need to be winning - the same at Crewe (a 1-1 draw in January).”

But Latics’ form overall has been impressive of late - and despite not gaining the result they wanted against Oldham, have now gone 10 games without defeat.

As well as clean sheets, goals have come thick and fast for Gary Caldwell’s men, though Wabara admits at times they would trade goals for results.

“If we could probably trade some of those 3-nils for 1-nils when we’ve drawn here and there, it could have boosted us for the rest of the season,” he said.

While the Oldham game was a source of frustration for Wabara and his team-mates, he says the way League One’s other Latics played wasn’t a surprise.

“Oldham are down at the bottom of the league so it was always going to be a difficult game because they were going to come at us to play,” he explained.

But with a promotion six-pointer at Walsall this coming weekend, Wabara has quickly put the result to the back of his mind, and says everyone at Latics believes they are more than capable of breaking into the top two.

“We know we can do it,” he said.

“We have the squad to do it, the infrastructure to do it. Everyone is building to that promotion really and we if don’t do it it’s probably a disservice to ourselves.”
