We can't get lazy now, warns Wigan Athletic ace

Leon Balogun admits Wigan Athletic can’t afford to drop their standards by even one per cent if they are to pull off a Great Escape.

Back-to-back wins over Millwall and Reading mean Latics could climb out of the bottom three for the first time in months this weekend.

And although they have the small matter of Championship leaders West Brom in their path, Balogun says they need fear no-one.

As long as they maintain the standards they have set in recent weeks.

“We’ve got to go from game-to-game and make sure we are 100 per cent,” he said.

“We can see that it is there, and we just have to stick to what we’re doing, and we will get our rewards.

"We can’t allow ourselves to get lazy or do one per cent less.

“You can see that if everyone does their job, we can achieve 100 per cent.

“But nothing is done yet, and if anything we have to do even more to keep this going.

"We have to work even harder, invest even more, to keep that momentum going.

“All the pain and the hard work will be worth it at the end of the season.”

Latics are second in the form table over the last seven games, with only West Brom having picked up more points over that period.

And Balogun says it could and should have been an even better return for Latics.

“Apart from Preston, we’ve been up there and close,” the German-born Nigeria international added.

“It felt like we should have won the games against Middlesbrough and Cardiff.

“I spoke to Sam Morsy about it, it’s a process, and you have to trust the process.

“There’s definitely a positive trend and hopefully we can keep it going until the end of the season.”
