'We got what we needed' - Wigan Athletic administrator

Wigan Athletic administrator Gerald Krasner has confirmed the bid accepted on Wednesday evening from a Spanish bidder was the first to tick every single box.

Not only has a ‘substantial’ deposit been received, but the group has also pledged to pay off the outstanding creditors at 25p in the pound – which would mean Latics avoiding a 15-point deduction this season.

The deal is now only waiting for EFL approval and, speaking exclusively to the Wigan Post, Krasner says the club's fans should be seeing this 'a very positive move'.

"If it all finishes well, it's good news," he said.

"It was a long process but, if it goes through, we got what we needed.

"When we walked in on day one, there was a possibility of the club closing within 25 days, because the wages hadn't been paid.

"We're obviously way beyond that in terms of progress.

"I'm sure the fans will be seeing this as a very positive move.

"In fact, I haven't had one bad WhatsApp message yet, which is a record!

"And I might get an early night for the first time in 12 weeks.

"But to have this done in the timescale is nothing short of a miracle, whatever anybody thinks."

Krasner also believes the process should be sorted - either way - in the next month.

"I would expect this to resolve itself in October," he said.

"And there's no way this football club will not keep going until the EFL give their approval or otherwise."
