It's a far cry from the scenes of last November and December, when the manager was under pressure from a section of the fanbase who even booed Kal Naismith on to the fieldf on one occasion.

Naismith's brace against Stoke underlined the progress that's been made since.

And the manager has clearly not forgotten how bad things got before the team kicked itself into shape.

"Listen, we were all getting booed before Christmas, not just Kal Naismith!" he chuckled.

"Let's not be unkind to Kal Naismith, come on...it was the whole lot of us getting booed!

"The only one who wasn't getting stick was Nick Powell...and he doesn't even play for us anymore!

"But listen, football supporters in the modern game...it's tough.

"We all know that, it's tough for players and managers.

"But looking at us now, we've hit 50 points...and I wouldn't like to single anyone out after that performance (against Stoke).

"Credit to them all, not one of them left anything out there on the field."

Latics lifted themselves up to 14th position, EIGHT points above the drop zone with only six matches to go.

The manager, though, says it's not over yet.

"I've said it from day one, league tables don't lie at the end of a season," he added.

"And I'll say it again now...there's only one league table that's important - and that's the one after the last game of the season.

"You just look elsewhere and the points-per-game situation...and that's just horrendous for clubs up and down the country.

"The reality is we will have an end to the season in the Championship.

"We will have teams being promoted and we will have teams being relegated.

"And after 46 games, there can be no excuses about either."
