We've got a fighting chance - Joyce

Fit-again manager Warren Joyce wants Wigan Athletic to build on the '˜chance' they've given themselves of avoiding relegation.

Tuesday night’s 1-0 win at Birmingham means second-bottom Latics are now only two points adrift of the safety mark, ahead of Saturday’s crunch visit of third-bottom Bristol City.

“There are some real characters in the dressing room,” admitted Joyce.

“There are some decent blokes in the group, and we’ve given ourselves a chance with the points we’ve picked up in the last few games.

“You just hope they dust themselves down and it doesn’t drain them too much.”

Joyce believes the return of David Perkins – who slotted back in effortlessly at Birmingham after Max Power strained a hamstring in the first half – underlined the strength in depth at the DW.

“Perks came in, contributed and worked hard and he was very good at his job,” added Joyce.

“The back-up lads are showing the right attitudes in training, they want to do the right things to try and get themselves back in the side.

“It keeps them going and, if they get a chance, it’s down to them.”
