Wigan Athletic moved to within two points of Championship safety with a hard-fought but very welcome 1-0 victory over play-off chasing Millwall at the DW.

The first half was relatively uneventful, with Latics surviving a penalty claim for a foul on Ryan Woods that referee Jeremy Simpson deemed to be outside, which replays suggested was just inside the box.

After the break, Latics dodged another bullet when David Marshall dropped a routine cross at the feet of Tom Bradshaw, who inexplicably fired wide of an unguarded net from six yards.

Latics then raised their game and Anthony Pilkington saw a shot deflect off a defender and loop just wide of the far post.

But shortly after Pilkington had his revenge, with a clever cross-shot being steered into his own net by Millwall midfielder Shaun Hutchinson for what proved to be the only goal on 57 minutes.
