Wigan Athletic 1 Oxford United 2

Wigan Athletic saw their winless sequence extend to 11 matches as Oxford United recorded a 2-1 victory at the DW - a scoreline which flattered the home side hugely.

Latics were fortunate to remain on level terms for an hour, thanks largely to good goalkeeping from Jamie Jones and poor finishing.

The home side even passed up the chance of going ahead, when Kyle Joseph saw a gilt-edged opportunity drop at his feet, but he could only side-foot wide of the target.

But Oxford finally made the breakthrough through Matty Taylor's fine finish from close range - and they never really looked back.

Jones, who'd twice come to his side's rescue in the first half, then made brilliant saves to prevent Taylor completing his hat-trick, with Elliott Moore also heading against the bar.

The second Oxford goal eventually arrived four minutes from time, when a Latics mistake in midfield resulted in James Henry slotting home past Jones.

But Latics kept at it, and Thelo Aasgaard headed home Tom Pearce's left-wing cross to ensure a nervy ending to the game.

Bizarrely, Latics actually climb off the foot of League One, as a result of Burton losing by a heavier margin.
