Wigan Athletic 2-2 Norwich City: Five things we learned

Wigan Today picks out some talking points from Norwich City's visit to the DW on Tuesday and the return of Yanic Wildschut.

1 - Judging by this performance the acquisition of Omar Bogle looks a real find for Warren Joyce. He's been banging them in for Grimsby Town this season and looked impressive in the first half before he bagged a brace. He was willing to run in behind - and should have scored earlier when clean-through - but also did a good job of holding the ball up and bringing others into play. His free-kick was a special moment. Latics will need plenty more of this.

2 - Warren Joyce will be hugely frustrated with the two goals conceded, both from routine crosses. Latics now have a settled team and structure but keep conceding soft goals like that they will continue to struggle. The manager said as much after the game and the disappointment was evident in his voice.

3 - On Friday against Sheffield Wednesday, Latics fans were keen to see Bogle and Grigg together up top but didn't get the chance. Tonight they got their way for 45 minutes and the pair looked threatening. Could this be the way forward for the rest of the season? Many will be hoping so.

4 - The surface at the DW - on the eve of the new Super League season - doesn't look too good. Joyce said afterwards even Barcelona would struggle to play on it. Maybe that could signal a more direct approach between now and the end of the season. Or will the conversations now happen behind the scenes for it to be re-turfed, again?

5 - We've got to save the last mention for Yanic. Despite his attempts to reach out to the fans via Wigan Today last week, he was always going to face a hostile reception on his return to the DW. Even his warm-up was scrutinised with every missed attempt cheered. He was almost clean through in the first-half but the ball clipped the back of his head and it didn't get much better for him. He gave away the free-kick for Bogle's second and was substituted in the 70th minute.
