It was all going swimmingly for Latics until Adam Long was given a contentious red card four minutes before half-time, for hauling down Harry Cardwell on the edge of the box.

Joe Garner had put the home side ahead from close range on 21 minutes, before Tom James doubled the lead 13 minutes later with a brilliant curling effort with his left foot.

But the second half was a completely different story, with the visitors making the most of their numerical advantage to pull one back within three minutes of the restart through Elliot Newby.

After Owen Evans had made a brilliant save and James had cleared off the Latics line, the equaliser that had been coming arrived on the hour mark through Cardwell's cool finish.

And Connor Hall grabbed what proved to be the winner inside the opening minute of extra-time when he rounded Evans before slotting home despite the best efforts of Emeka Obi on the line.
