And he hopes concrete offers are received within the next two weeks.

Gerald Krasner says he has fielded 50 enquiries from potential bidders – including a Wigan Warriors-led consortium – since the club was placed into administration six days earlier.

He is demanding they show proof of funds of £10m. So far, two have done so.

“If previous experience is anything to go by, I would hope the 50 leads to something like three to five very serious offers,” said Krasner, who was meeting with Wigan MP Lisa Nandy today. “I’d like final offers by 21st of July, but that can be extended.

“I’m optimistic that we will reach the end of the season.

“And I’m also optimistic that we will ultimately find a successful bidder and Wigan will in some shape or form, be playing football next season.”

His update at the DW Stadium provided some light at the end of the tunnel.
