Wigan Athletic boss admits Palmer interest

John Sheridan admits Wigan Athletic are very keen on Swindon midfielder Matty Palmer - if the finances can be agreed.

League Two outfit Oldham are also in the hunt for the 25-year-old, who spent time on loan at Boundary Park in 2016.

However, Sheridan was the Oldham manager during that time, and the chance to reunite with his old manager - rather than his old club - could prove decisive.

"I like him, I've asked about him," revealed the Wigan boss.

"He did really well for me at Oldham, I've always really liked him as a player.

"We made an enquiry to Swindon, and if he was available - and financially it suited us - we'd be interested."

Earlier this week, Swindon manager Richie Wells admitted the player was leaving to a move to the Wigan Latics rather than the Oldham branch.

"We have had a couple of offers from Oldham for Matty Palmer," said Wellens.

"But he would rather go to Wigan."

There is also a strong Wigan link in the Swindon management team, with Noel Hunt assistant manager and Paul Jewell director of football.
