Wigan Athletic boss: Make mine a treble!

If there's one man who won't be fazed by the pressure associated with this afternoon's fight for the title, it's Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook.

Latics require only a point at Doncaster to secure the League One title regardless of how Blackburn do against Oxford at Ewood Park.

And Cook will be hoping to make it a memorable hat-trick by delivering silverware to the DW.

“We won the League Two title at Chesterfield on the last day, we won the League Two title at Portsmouth on the last day...and fingers crossed we can win the league with Wigan on the last day,” he smiled.

“At Portsmouth last season, someone told me we were only top of the table for the last 20 minutes.

“That’s football! Nobody has a divine right to anything.

“We have no divine right to finish top of the table. But the players know what’s at stake and what it would mean to us.”

Latics missed the chance to secure top spot last weekend when they were held at home by AFC Wimbledon.

But Cook reckons that will only add to the excitement for the final day of the campaign.

“I just think it’s nice to have something to play for,” he added.

“If we were sat here with everything done, we’d be wondering what we were really doing going over for the game.

“I think it’s really good the game will have an edge to it, and we’ll be going all-out to make sure we win that league title.

“It would be the icing on the cake at the end of a wonderful season.”

All of the games in League One kick-off at 5.30pm.
