Wigan Athletic boss not thinking about EFL appeal

Paul Cook is not even thinking about Wigan Athletic’s appeal against a 12-point penalty imposed by the EFL – even though it’s the only thing standing between them and League One.

Despite the players’ best efforts in midweek, the 1-1 draw against Fulham meant Latics dropped into the bottom three once the EFL’s penalty for being placed into administration was applied at full-time.

Latics have appealed the punishment – in a process that will cost them £500,00, win or lose – and will state their case via David Phillips QC next Friday.

In the meantime, though, the crestfallen manager will be holding his own counsel.

“I don’t want to know about appeals,” he said. “The reality is we shouldn’t be appealing.

“Because we shouldn’t be in this situation.”
