Wigan Athletic boss won't '˜over-analyse' home/away disparity

Paul Cook insists he won't be spending the international break fretting about the huge gulf in Wigan Athletic's home and away form.

The 4-0 defeat at Preston last Saturday was Wigan’s fifth in six matches on the road, with the only win coming at Stoke.

On home soil it’s been completely the oppposite, with fours wins and two draws from their half-dozen fixtures.

Cook, though, isn’t reading too much into it.

“We’re playing in such a tough, unforgiving league, you don’t have time to over-analyse things,” he told the Wigan Post.

“Home form, away form, good form, bad form...at the end of the day, you’ll have a number of points at the end of the season.

“To me, it’s half-irrelevant where you pick up your points.

“If that means you’re strong at home, and people think you need to improve away, that’s fine.

“Most of the time, there’s no real difference in home and away form.

“It’s just the way it’s coming out at the moment.”

Latics have slipped from the play-off places to 12th in the last fortnight, but Cook doesn’t feel his side was given enough credit for their excellent start.

“Every point in this league is gold and, at the moment, I don’t feel we’re quite respecting the position we’re in,” he added.

“We’ve started so well in this division, and I just feel there’s a feeling around the club that everything is good, and it’s enough.

“It’s never enough, until you’re where you want to be.”
