Latics are still waiting to hear from the EFL if the Spanish bid has been given the green light – almost two months since their offer was accepted by the administrators.

In the meantime, the team is rock bottom of League One – without a win in their last 12 matches, and having been dumped out of all three domestic cup competitions.

“I think in any industry, with any project, people need direction,” acknowledged Richardson. “And I think we’ll only get that when the club is taken over.

“But while that’s not the case, all we can do is be as professional and as determined and as hard-working as we possibly can.

“And I’ve got to say every man and woman at this football club are absolutely doing that.

“This club finished mid-table in the Championship last season, and we were looking to push on towards higher things.

“Outside sources didn’t allow that, but we did ensure the football club stayed in business, and we have a platform to go again.

“Fingers crossed we can get a sale for the club, and someone will put a really good structure in place, because this is a really fantastic football club.”

Richardson is one of the few figures remaining from last season, and he admits things have been tough going as administration continues to have its effect.

“You’re kind of coming in every day knowing there’s going to be problems, and you’re finding the energy to deal with those problems,” he added.

“The day ends, and you then start again the following morning – and that’s the way it’s been for some months.

“It’s not just me, that goes for all the staff here at the football club.

“The ones who have remained here, we’ve got our heads down and we’re working as hard as we can.

“It’s my first time in administration, and I’m just trying to give off as much energy and positivity and signals as I can to help the others.”

Latics don’t have a game this weekend, having been knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdele by non-league Chorley.

On Tuesday they face a tough trip to Lincoln City, who lie third in the table after a fantastic start.

Latics are hoping to have ‘Mr Versatile’ Kal Naismith and Wales international midfielder Lee Evans available.

The experienced pair haven’t played for a month through injury, but are believed to be close to returning to action.
