Wigan Athletic defender departure confirmed

Emeka Obi has become the latest product of the Wigan Athletic youth system to have their contract cancelled by mutual consent.

The 19-year-old joined the Latics Academy after spells with Liverpool and Bury, and featured in nine first team matches this season.

"We thank Emeka for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him well in his future career," read a club statement.

The move releases another squad space at the DW Stadium, which is expected to be filled by Plymough defender Scott Wootton.
