Despite knocking Pep Guardiola’s team of superstars out of the FA Cup last month, Cook says City are the benchmark of how to cope with the week in, week out grind in search of silverware.

“I think the main thing that strikes you about Man City is the repetition,” said the Latics manager.

“Their repetition in what they do is amazing, they just keep turning up.

“Straight after playing us, they played Arsenal twice, and beat them 3-0 both times. That’s what good teams do!”

Cook is also unconcerned at the upcoming fixture backlog that will see his side play their remaining 14 league games over just 56 days.

“There’s no such thing as fixture pile-ups any more,” he added.

“If you want to be a good team, you’re going to have to play a lot of games.

“From there it’s a case of whether you can win them.

“At the moment, we’ve got 67 points from 32 games, which is a fantastic amount.

“But there’s nothing been won yet.”
