Wigan Athletic found guilty of FA charge

Wigan Athletic have been fined £1,500 for the conduct of some of their players during the recent defeat at Charlton.

It was alleged Latics 'failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion'.

The club accepted the charge but contested the standard penalty.

Some of the players, including skipper Joe Garner, surrounded referee Ollie Yates after he failed to award the visitors a penalty following a foul on Lee Evans.

The incident was described by John Sheridan in his post-match press conference as being one of two 'stonewall penalties' ignored by Yates, who also disallowed a 'goal' by Garner for a foul in the build-up by Will Keane.

"An independent Regulatory Commission has fined Wigan Athletic FC £1,500 following its EFL League One fixture against Charlton Athletic FC on Saturday 17 October 2020," read an FA statement.

"Wigan Athletic FC accepted a charge for a breach of FA Rule E20 after failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 83rd minute of the fixture but contested the standard penalty."
