Wigan Athletic goal hero looking up not down

Jamal Lowe insists there will be no resting on laurels despite Wigan Athletic taking a huge step towards Championship safety at the weekend.

Goals from Lowe and Anthony Pilkington were enough to secure a precious away win at fellow strugglers Huddersfield, and move Latics up to eighth bottom on the ladder - three points clear of the drop zone.

It was also a fifth clean sheet on the bounce for the visiting backline, who last conceded a goal at Cardiff on February 15.

And Lowe says the players are only looking up, now down, the table, with eight games to go.

"We're going to try to take this confidence into the next game now and build on it," he said.

"It's one game at a time with only nine matches left, now eight.

"But the confidence in the squad is aso high, you can see that in the performance.

"And there's so much still to work on that can make us even better."

Lowe's opening goal - his fourth of the campaign - was a cool finish off his chest after Kieffer Moore's right-wing cross had been deflected into his path.

"I saw big 'Chief' out there on the wing...and if he's out there it means there's no-one in the box," Lowe acknowledged.

"I had to make sure I got in there and managed to get it in off the chest."

The ex-Portsmouth man also hailed fellow goalscorer Pilkington, who was excellent throughout, and might have scored another goal, only to send an early shot straight at the goalkeeper.

"I thought Pilks would have managed to score the first one to be honest," added Lowe.

"But the pitch was a bit dry, on an ordinary day that flies in.

"We all know the quality Pilks has, which you saw with the second goal, which he managed to get in."
