Wigan Athletic icon overwhelmed by response to huge EFL honour
Brenda Spencer has acknowledged her thanks for the overwhelming response to her receiving a major EFL Award at the weekend as she closes in on four decades of service to Wigan Athletic.
The 80-year-old, who became the club's non-executive chair at the beginning of last year, was honoured on stage at the governing body's annual awards night on Sunday.

Receiving the gong from Latics legend Matt Jackson, she said: "It's been 40 years of great times, highs and lows which we all get in football, but I'd like to thank the EFL for awarding me this.
"It's an honour to accept it. I'd like to thank everybody I have worked with over the years. You can't be successful in anything you do without good people."
And after being swamped with congratulatory messages in the coming she, Brenda has put on record her appreciation.
"I would like to thank everyone who posted supportive messages and congratulations following Sunday's EFL Awards, where I was presented with the Contribution to League Football award. I am truly honoured to receive such a fantastic award," she said.
"I will have been involved at the club for 40 years in October, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you - the fans - for your support to both myself and our amazing football club over the years. It is very much appreciated."
Mrs Spencer played a key role as chief executive as Latics climbed from the fourth tier to the Premiership under the Whelan family ownership.
