Lincoln boss Michael Appleton admits he feels huge sympathy for the 'horrible' situation Wigan Athletic find themselves in.

Ahead of Tuesday's night's clash at Sincil Bank, Appleton says his own experience of administration means he knows exactly what the Latics players and staff are going through.

“I’ve been there, when I was at Portsmouth, and it’s horrible," he said. “With the troubles they’ve got, it can’t be easy.

“Day to day, you don’t really know what’s going on, whether the takeover is going to happen, who’s in charge.

“What they will do though is come to us and play with a freedom. And if we allow them to play with freedom they’ve got players who can hurt us.

“I feel for them as a football club, but ultimately I’ve got to stay professional and make sure we do our utmost to win the game.

“It becomes a dangerous game, because the expectation is that we’re going to win - but it doesn’t work like that."

Appleton is also wary of the 'danger' posed by bottom-of-the-table Latics, who have nothing to lose against their promotion-chasing opponents.

“I’m expecting a bit of a mixture, I know they can change it up a bit in terms of personnel and formation," he added during his pre-match press conference, covered by Lincolnshire Live.

“I expect us to have more of the ball. But that doesn’t mean you win the game.

“We’re going to face a side that’s determined with nothing to lose because of the situation they’re in. That’s what makes them dangerous.”
