Wigan Athletic '˜must avoid lethargy' - Dunkley
Chey Dunkley has pledged Wigan Athletic will be ready to hit the ground running when the Championship resumes this weekend after the international break.
Latics couldn’t have a much more difficult fixture to return to action, with the long trip south to face an in-form Brentford side.
And Dunkley says Latics must pick up where they left off – or risk being stung by the Bees.
“It’s been a good opportunity for us to have a bit of a break after a hectic month,” he told the Wigan Post.
“But we also understand the importance of being ready to go at the weekend, and not showing any signs of lethargy.
“We’ve been hammering that message all week and hopefully it’s a trap we won’t fall into.
“It’s not easy to stop and go again, and stop and go again.
“But that’s how it is around the international breaks and we just have to deal with it.”
Dunkley has been a key figure in the opening few weeks of the season, being the only man standing from last term’s record-breaking defence.
“It’s been a different role, but it’s not just about me,” he added.
“There’s also (Sam) Morsy and (Lee) Evans in front who are doing their bit.
“To be fair, I haven’t really done anything different in terms of responsibility.
“I’ve always been a player who likes to help others, and try and do anything I can to bring players on.
“There probably has been an added responsibility with the three new lads coming in.
“But it’s not like it’s stressed me out at all, and the way they’ve fitted in has made all of our jobs easy.”
