Palmer, 25, joined Latics last Friday on loan from Swindon, initially on loan until January.

And the midfielder says he sought the advice of Sharpe - who used to represent him - before putting pen to paper with Latics.

"Yeah he looked after me for a time, and only had good things to say about the club," revealed Palmer, who trained with his team-mates for the first time on Monday.

"I spoke to him when I was first linked here.

"Not that I needed my mind making up, I was thinking I was coming here anyway.

"But he said some very nice things about the place and I can't wait to get started."

Palmer is hoping to be involved on Tuesday night when high-flying Peterborough visit the DW Stadium.

Defender Tom Pearce is also expected to return after missing Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Charlton with a slight groin strain.
