The 27-year-old, who is the world's most expensive defender following his £80million move from Leicester to Old Trafford last summer, was one of three Englishmen arrested by Greek police on Thursday night.

The head of the press office for the Hellenic Police's South Aegean region said there had been an altercation and an exchange of words with the police, and that the three men would appear before a prosecutor on the island of Syros later on Friday.

United said: "The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos.

"Contact has been made with Harry, and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities.

"At this time we will be making no further comment."

A further statement was released by Greek police later on Friday which read: "Three foreigners, aged 27, 28 and 29, were arrested today (August 21, 2020) in Mykonos by police officers of the Mykonos police department.

"Patrolling police officers in the area of Mykonos intervened and normalised a dispute between citizens, however, three foreigners involved in the incident turned against them, insulting and hitting a police officer with fists.

"The three foreigners were taken to the Mykonos Police Station, where upon their arrival they strongly resisted, pushing and beating three police officers.

"One of the detainees then tried to offer money so that the trial against them would not be completed. The arrested (men) were taken to the Syros Prosecutor's Office."

United players are taking time off after their Europa League exertions earlier this month.

The club were eliminated by Spanish side Sevilla last Sunday. The Europa League final will take place in Germany on Friday night.

Maguire starred on loan for Latics during the second half of the 2014-15 campaign under Malky Mackay, before returning to parent club Hull.

He was then sold to Leicester and moved to Old Trafford last summer for £80million, making him the world's most expensive defender.
