Wigan Athletic old boy's incredible gesture
Former Wigan Athletic striker Marcelo Moreno has donated $100,000 to help underprivileged families during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The gesture from the 32-year-old Bolivia international, still playing in Brazil with Cruzeiro, means 7,500 food baskets can be delivered to poor and vulnerable households in La Paz, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba.
"It is wonderful to be able to help these families who really need it," Moreno told Globo Esporte. "I will never forget my roots, my country."
On the effects of the pandemic, he added: "It is very sad and it makes me emotional just to talk about it because it''s been on our mind since the beginning of the year."
