Wigan Athletic present 'no problem at all' if Sunderland are on it

Luke O’Nien believes Sunderland’s trip to Wigan will present ‘no problem at all’ if the Black Cats hit their straps.

Sunderland’s home defeat to Charlton at the weekend ended a 14-game unbeaten run for the Wearsiders, who are now five points adrift of automatic promotion – albeit with a game in hand.

And despite Latics thumping Doncaster 4-1 at the weekend to breathe new life into their own survival hopes, O’Nien says it’s all about what Sunderland do at the DW Stadium.

“There’s some good teams in this league,” he told Sunderland’s official website.

“But I know that if we turn up and do what we’d been doing over our 14-game unbeaten run, then it’ll be no problem at all.

“We’ve been on a good run of form, and we don’t need to panic.

“It’s important we go back to the drawing board and get on another good run to end the season.”

Latics won the corresponding fixture at the Stadium of Light back in December, thanks to a Kyle Joseph strike.

They head into this game one point adrift of safety with six games remaining – four of which are at the DW Stadium.

Meanwhile, Latics’ visit of relegation-threatened Swindon Town will take place on Sunday, May 9, along with all other final day fixtures in League One.

All matches will kick-off at 12pm.

It was also confirmed yesterday that Fixture Release Day for the 2021-22 season will be Thursday, June 24 (9am).
